We’re less than a week away from the Bills visiting Metlife Stadium to take on the Jets and while there hasn’t been much talk thus far, things may start to heat up.
For starters, Steve Johnson may find himself with new bulletin board material after some recent comments made by Jets head coach Rex Ryan.
While defending cornerback Darrelle Revis at the notion that Johnson has his number, Ryan may have given Johnson something to motivate him for the upcoming week 1 matchup.
“Stevie Johnson’s a good receiver and he’s caught some balls, but I wouldn’t say he’s got Darrelle Revis’ number,” Ryan said in a press conference to the media on Monday. “I’ve never walked out of a game saying, ‘This player got the best of Darrelle Revis.’ Never. Never felt that way. Do you realize how special this guy is? It is amazing what we ask him to do.”
Johnson, who caught the only touchdown pass against Revis last season, is the clear cut number 1 receiver for Buffalo and will no doubt be matched up against Revis all day on Sunday. In two games against the Jets in 2011, Johnson recorded eleven catches for 159 yards and 1 touchdown.
What do you think of Ryan’s comments? Does Johnson have Revis’ number? What will the matchup be like in week 1? Let us know!
